Twenty-eight lawmakers - five senators and 23 congressmen - have been linked to the pork barrel scam. The solons allegedly made their pork barrel available to dummy NGOs set up for ghost projects thus siphoning public funds worth P10 billion over the past ten years.
Whistle-blowers told the National Bureau of Investigations (NBI), the pork barrel scam was allegedly the brainchild of Janet Lim-Napoles, president and CEO of the trading firm JLN Corp.
According to The Inquirer, the list of senators linked to the pork barrel scam are Senators Bong Revilla, Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada, Bongbong Marcos and Gringo Honasan.
Meanwhile, topping the list of congressmen are Rizalina Seachon-Lanete of Masbate’s third district, Conrado Estrella III of Pangasinan’s 6th district, Rodolfo Plaza of Agusan del Sur, and Samuel Dangwa, of Benguet.
Contrary to earlier reports, Senator Loren Legarda was not among those involved in the pork barrel scam because, according to the whistleblower, the lady senator was very strict with receipts.
The whistleblowers identified the dummy organizations which received the pork barrel from the lawmakers and the banks and bank accounts used for the scam.
They also alleged that portions of the illegally acquired funds were deposited in the accounts of various persons that earned interest in connivance with the Air Materiel Wings Savings and Loan Association Inc. (SMWSLAI). Napoles, meanwhile, can allegedly deposit and withdraw money from these accounts without the account holder's knowledge and approval in connivance with some officials.
