A gaping hole is on a portion of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) after it collapsed due to the heavy downpour. The collapsed portion is only a few meters wide but it caused the closure of a section of SCTEx and motorists going to and from Olongapo will have to take a detour to Clark to avoid the damaged portion.
According to the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA), the collapse of the highway was due to the erosion of soil near the SCTEx after continued heavy rainfall caused the Pasig-Potrero River to swell.
At the moment, the extent of the damage to other portions of the highway is being assessed by BCDA and its engineers. A traffic rerouting scheme is being implemented to keep motorists safe.
Motorists are to take a detour at Clark south exit through McArthur Highway and reenter at Porac. No timetable for the repair of the damaged portion has been announced. Adobo Talk PH
