A new low pressure area (LPA) which may intensify into a storm has been spotted east of Luzon. The LPA may intensify into 'Bagyong Odette' (Tropical Storm Odette), the first cyclone for September and the 15th for the year.
UPDATE: Typhoon Odette has intensified further and is is now almost a supertyphoon. Signal #4 and Signal #3 have been raised over a number of northern provinces.
According to the latest weather bulletin of PAGASA at 11:00 AM, Typhoon Odette was observed 350 kilometers east northeast of Aparri, Cagayan. It also moved faster at 19 kph northwest.
Signal #4 is now up over the Batanes Group of Islands.

Calayan Group of Islands
Babuyan Group of Islands

'Bagyong Odette' is now packing maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 240 kph.
