As of the latest report, at least 20 people have been confirmed dead, mostly from Cebu. They were killed by falling debris after building or parts of buildings collapsed. Dozens are injured with the number rising with each passing hour.
The tragedy has echoed not only in the Visayas, not only in the Philippine archipelago, but worldwide. Thousands of Pinoys living abroad and overseas Filipino workers (OFW) have families in Cebu, Bohol and the whole region affected by the earthquake.
This latest calamity comes only days after Typhoon Santi crossed central Luzon and brought widespread damage to crops and properties.
